GATE ACCESS FROM St ANNE’S DRIVE

15/05/2018

Notice to Redhill Bowling Club Members

Following recent negotiations with the Greenspaces Allotments & Sports Officer from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, this notice is to confirm the revised arrangements for the use of St Anne’s Drive entrance gate which is subject to shared access between RBC and the allotment holders.

Please would all members take time to read this notice and then follow these gate arrangements going forward. Please also take note of the information on the notice board and any signage that is placed on the gate for events.

Background

The current situation is that the St Anne’s Drive gate is used for access to the Wiggie Lane allotments and for access to the gates to RBC. RBC have a right of access to use the track and also the responsibility for the maintenance of it.

Gate Procedure

In order to accommodate the needs of RBC, it has been agreed that on certain days and for regular events, where there will be a significant amount of traffic accessing RBC, the gate stays not only UNLOCKED but ALSO OPEN.

This procedure will be in respect of the following:

17:30 – 20:30 – Thursday evening Border league Matches

18:00 – 20:30 – Friday Night Roll-up

13:00 – 19:00 – Weekday/Weekend match days; special events

However, outside of these regular events where traffic volume is not expected to be great, or where only a few people attend the club for casual play or socialising, it has been agreed that the gate, whilst being shut, will not be locked during the day if the main green RBC gate is open (i.e. when members are on site).

This will still enable members and visitors to access and exit the club premises. Therefore, I would ask members to follow the request to shut the gate after entry and exit. The last RBC member out will lock the gate if they have locked the RBC gate. The gate should always be locked at the end of the day and overnight. However, the allotment holders are being requested not to lock the gate if the RBC gate is still open.

The Council will be posting this list of days and times on the allotment site notice board and have written to the allotment holders advising them of the new arrangements and procedure.

RBC will also put up a notice by the gate to alert allotment holders when there is either a match or an event that requires the gate to stay open.

You will appreciate that a degree of compromise is necessary between RBC and the allotment holders. I believe these new arrangements are clear and should appease both parties.

Please use this procedure with immediate effect and exercise common sense and politeness should others forget or appear unaware of these arrangements. If there are any problems please let me know as soon as possible in order that I can discuss them with the allotment steward and/or the council.

If you have any questions about the above please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any member of the Committee.
