SHORT MAT AT RBC

Dear Member (via bcc)

Roger and Marion Gatland propose to commence Short Mat sessions in the Clubhouse on Tuesday, 20th October. These will then run most Tuesday and Saturday afternoons until early April 2027. Participants must be either Playing or Social Members of the Club.

The session on Tuesday, 20^th October will be for practice in an informal team situation. If necessary another practice session will be held on Saturday, 24^th October. This will enable those new to Short Mat to get used to the sport, and for experienced members to get back in the swing.

FORMAT

Teams are drawn from those present – pairs, triples or rinks depending upon numbers. No sign up beforehand is necessary.

Play starts at 2 p.m. (be there by 1.45 p.m. please!). A tea/coffee & biscuits break is taken at 3 p.m. followed by a further hour of bowls. Rules are roughly the same as the outdoor game. There is a session charge of £2 to cover refreshments and overhead costs such as Clubhouse heating & lighting. There is no charge if you bring cake.

Player’s team scores will be recorded and standings published regularly with prizes awarded at the end of the season.

GENERAL

Roger & Marion will need physical help with rolling out the mats and if necessary, rolling them up after play. Unless this help is available it may not be possible to play.

If the majority agree we will set up a Short Mat WhatsApp Group to disseminate news.
